Kyekyeku are a Ghanaian Afro-fusion band with roots in highlife.

Kerfala Kante Jr. is from Guinea Conakry, younger brother of a notable singer now deceased.

Balka Sound were a 1980’s band from Congo Brazzaville with an updated version of traditional styles.

Vusi Mahlasela recorded an album with Norman Zulu and Swedish outfit Jive Connection in 2002, never released until now.


Marcus Gad is a reggae artist from New Caledonia.

Kosmo Sound are dub explorers from Ghent in Belgium.

Mauskovic Dance Band are a quartet based in Amsterdam.

Gaye Su Akyol, based in Istanbul, plays an original style of Turkish folk-rock.

Kokoroko are a London-based funk, jazz and afrobeat outfit led by Sheila Maurice-Grey.

Shotnez are an instrumental quartet based in Tel Aviv.


“Sea Song Sessions” brings together some fine musicians and singers from the English tradition.

Toasaves are a Belgian multinational collective influenced by archaic Flemish folksong.

Mostar Sevdah Reunion carry the heritage of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the city of Mostar.

Taraf Syriana are a Montreal-based quartet playing the folk music of Syria and surrounding countries.

“Baul Meets Saz” are Emre Gültekin from Turkey and two members of the Baul community of Bengal.


Wau Wau Collectif came together when Karl Jonas Winqvist collaborated with Senegalese artists in a coastal fishing village.

Israeli jazz drummer, Ziv Ravitz, joins the Beninois jazz guitarist Lionel Loueke live.

Momi Maiga is a Senegalese singer and kora-player, now based in Catalonia.

The Meral Polat Trio plays Anatolian folk and Kurdish blues.

Iranian chanteuse Mahsa Vahdat joins the long-running Norwegian choir SKRUK.
