Burkina Faso’s Farafina 1993 album gets a new outing in Real World’s re-release programme later this month.

Linda Ayupuka is a Ghanaian church choir leader and sometime electronic dance vocalist.

The original Congotronics bands, together with international friends and admirers, have issued a group album.

Ghanaian highlife in the diaspora took on the club style in the 1980s….the Borga Revolution!


Rebolu is an Afro-Colombian band based in New York.

Grammy winners Cimarrón are a joropo band from the Orinoco plains of Colombian.

L’Attirail are a French band, led by Xavier Demerliac, who play “acoustic music without borders or roots”.

Transglobal Chart member and musician, Daryana Antipova, has compiled an extensive range of music from her native Siberia and beyond.


Shane Cooper & Mabuta are a funky jazz band from South Africa.

IDR are Italian Doc Remix, an Italian-American jazz and folk ensemble.

Tomás de Perrate is an Andalusian flamenco singer of gypsy heritage.

Leyla McCalla, who featured in the Carolina Chocolate Drops and Our Native Daughters, is on the trail of her Haitian roots.


Clinton Fearon is a veteran reggae singer and musician now based in Seattle.

Adrian Sherwood has compiled an album of dub featuring an international cast of female singers.

Collectif Medz Bazar have members of Armenian, Turkish, French and US heritage, and are based in Paris.

Moktar Gania is a Moroccan gnawa musician and brother of the late master Mahmoud Gania.

Sababa 5 play funky and soulful versions of traditional Yemenite songs.

Ferkat Al Ard was a Lebanese trio in the 1970s with strong links to Brazil.
